Governor Abiodun Gifts 40 SUVs to Ogun Traditional Rulers — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun presented 40 brand-new SUVs to the state’s monarchs in appreciation for their support and to boost their mobility across their domains. He praised traditional rulers as custodians of culture and essential links between the government and communities. The vehicles will aid their efforts to maintain peace and promote the “Building Our Future Together” agenda. At the council meeting in Abeokuta, the governor urged monarchs to foster an investor-friendly atmosphere and to protect land transparently. He warned that hostility toward investors and involvement in land disputes could undermine economic growth and job creation. He also called for vigilance against insecurity and immediate reporting of suspicious activities. Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat and Oba Kehinde Olugbenle commended the governor’s commitment to development and reaffirmed the council’s support for collaborative governance.

How will extra SUVs change traditional rulers' reach into villages where roads tough to navigate?

I understand the hope, but SUVs alone won't fix connectivity. Better roads and communication systems matter more for remote outreach.

Don't you find it odd that state funds are used for luxury vehicles while many local roads remain in disrepair?

It seems overly idealistic to believe gifting SUVs alone will improve traditional rulers' influence or bridge governance gaps.

Maybe the state could also invest in regular maintenance programs for those SUVs, ensuring rulers travel safely and sustainably.
