Nigeria Warns UN That Food Prices and Insecurity Are Worsening Hunger
Nigeria has warned the United Nations that rising food prices, insecurity, debt pressures and falling humanitarian support are worsening hunger and poverty. The country said food availability alone does not guarantee food security. Many low-income households cannot afford nutritious meals as the cost of food, rent, transport and other essentials continues to rise. Nigeria called for stronger support for smallholder farmers, improved irrigation, storage and rural infrastructure, as well as affordable housing, social protection and greater support for informal workers and vulnerable communities.
