From Lisbon to Ile-Oyo: Tiago Ishola’s Journey to Becoming ‘Oyinbo Ibile’

From Lisbon to Ile-Oyo: Tiago Ishola’s Journey to Becoming ‘Oyinbo Ibile’

Tiago Ishola, popularly known as Oyinbo Ibile or Unique Tiago, was born in Portugal in 2000. His life changed in 2010 when he moved to Oyo and was welcomed into the palace of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who named him Ishola. Fluent in Yoruba and deeply rooted in traditional customs, Tiago has built a career as a comedian, actor and cultural advocate. His humorous skits on TikTok and Instagram blend Yoruba slang and everyday experiences, earning him a devoted following. Tiago completed his education in Ibadan, where daily life with locals sharpened his command of the language and traditions. His influence grew further after guest roles in Nollywood, including a part in the second season of the Netflix series Aníkúlápó. His story highlights how culture and experience can shape identity. From a fair-skinned boy in Portugal to a celebrated Yoruba performer, Tiago proves heritage goes beyond origin.

It's striking that someone with Portuguese roots was embraced so fully by the Alaafin's palace; cultural openness here seems genuinely impressive.
