Lawal Questions Super Eagles Coach Chelle’s $100,000 Monthly Wage

Lawal Questions Super Eagles Coach Chelle’s $100,000 Monthly Wage — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Garba Lawal has expressed doubts about Nigeria’s ability to sustain the head coach’s reported $100,000 monthly salary following Eric Chelle’s four-year contract extension. Chelle’s deal was recently prolonged to 2030 after guiding the Super Eagles to a play-off spot and securing a bronze medal at the 2025 AFCON. His pay has doubled from $50,000 to $100,000, with the NFF set to handle backroom staff contracts separately. Lawal, however, warned that the significant financial commitment could add undue pressure. He urged the federation to clearly set performance targets and allow Chelle to focus on qualifying Nigeria for AFCON 2027.
