Ohanaeze at 50: New Book Sparks Call for Institutional Renewal
Ohanaeze Ndigbo marked its 50th anniversary in Lagos with the unveiling of a 602-page book examining the organisation’s history, challenges and future role in Igbo affairs. The event brought together traditional rulers, political leaders, business figures and cultural icons, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Peter Obi, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Kanayo O. Kanayo. The book explores Ohanaeze’s evolution, internal disagreements, leadership transitions and relationship with political authority. Speakers said the anniversary should be more than a celebration of the past. They called for institutional renewal, stronger engagement with young people and the diaspora, and a more strategic role for Ohanaeze in advancing Igbo cultural, economic and political interests.
