Court Discharges Pretty Mike and Club Supervisor After NDLEA Case Collapses

Court Discharges Pretty Mike and Club Supervisor After NDLEA Case Collapses

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has discharged socialite Mike Nwalie (aka Pretty Mike) and Proxy nightclub supervisor Joachim Hillary after finding that the NDLEA failed to establish a prima facie case against them. Justice Ambrose Lewis-Alagoa upheld the defendants’ no-case submission, ruling that suspicion and circumstantial assertions could not sustain the drug-related charges at the preliminary stage. The prosecution had accused them of conspiracy, unlawful possession of hard drugs, and permitting the use of their venue for illicit drug activities following an October 26 raid on Proxy Lagos. The agency claimed to have recovered cylinders of nitrous oxide and a small amount of cannabis. Defence counsel argued there was no credible evidence linking the pair directly to the seized substances. The court agreed and discharged both without calling them to enter a defence.

What impact do you think this court ruling will have on the public trust in NDLEA's investigations going forward?

Could you clarify if you're questioning whether NDLEA's process itself lost credibility after this dismissal?

It's surprising, but this outcome could actually reinforce faith in checks and balances rather than erode NDLEA credibility.

Seems odd that such a high-profile case collapsed without stronger evidence from NDLEA by the time it reached the Federal High Court.

Is it wrong to wonder if political clout influenced this discharge, or na just procedural lapses we dey criticize?

Maybe NDLEA should review its investigative processes, ensure stronger evidence before public arrests, and avoid wasting court resources on weak cases.
