Why Peter Obi’s 2027 Igbo Presidency Bid Is Doomed
I’ve followed the recent clash between Peter Obi and Kenneth Okonkwo over party primary finances. Many see Obi as a messianic figure for 2027, but I believe an Igbo presidency under “One Nigeria” is a lost cause. Tribalism, ethnic profiling and systemic injustice will block any real progress. Obi’s personal reinvention from ordinary governor to national saint doesn’t change Nigeria’s divisive union. His supporters ignore the bitter truth: as long as the current power structure remains, even a well‐meaning Igbo president will face persecution and marginalization. Rather than chasing a pipedream, Obi and his followers should push for a national referendum on decentralization or dissolution. A reset offers more hope than recycling another election that serves only political elites.
