GTBank Debits N100,000 Without Authorisation; Customer Faces Long Wait for Refund

GTBank Debits N100,000 Without Authorisation; Customer Faces Long Wait for Refund

Clement Oku, a Lagos resident, discovered that GTBank withdrew N100,000 from his account on May 22 without his permission. This is the second unauthorised debit he has faced in three years. When he reported the error, bank staff said he must wait eight working days for a reversal. In February 2024, he lost N310,000 in a similar incident and has still not recovered that money after repeated complaints.

It's worrying how often these unauthorised withdrawals occur, and the eight day wait feels like poor customer care.

I get their need for checks, but waiting over a week just erodes trust even more.

Maybe the customer missed an alert, so they should double check their transactions regularly before blaming the bank entirely.
