Ashley Cole Leaves England U-21 Coaching Role to Pursue Club Management
Former Chelsea and England defender Ashley Cole has left his assistant coaching role with England’s Under-21 team to focus on becoming a club manager. Cole spent five years in the Football Association setup, working alongside Lee Carsley as the Young Lions won consecutive European Under-21 Championships in 2023 and 2025. He has also held coaching roles at Everton, Birmingham City and Chelsea’s academy. Carsley praised Cole’s tactical knowledge and inspirational influence on players, saying he played a major role in the team’s recent success. Cole briefly managed Italian Serie B side Cesena earlier this year before leaving the post.
