Omah Lay declares himself Nigeria’s greatest artist of the past 20 years, names Burna Boy his only peer

Afrobeats superstar Omah Lay is brimming with confidence as he prepares to drop his second album, Clarity of Mind. In a recent interview with a leading music blog, he claimed he has been Nigeria’s top musician for the last two decades. He said only Burna Boy comes close to matching his artistry. Omah Lay insists his upcoming project will prove his status at the top of the Afrobeats scene. The singer has already released singles like “Holyghost,” “Waist” and “Don’t Love Me,” all set to appear on the 12-track LP. He describes the album as a candid exploration of his mental health and personal life. Clarity of Mind is scheduled for release on April 3, 2026. Fans can expect the same introspection and vulnerability that made his debut, Boy Alone, a critical and commercial success.

Omah Lay's impact is huge, but greatest of twenty years? That title feels a bit premature to me.

His confidence is impressive, but two decades seems like a long stretch for any artist to claim uninterrupted dominance.

It feels premature to label one artist as the greatest when Afrobeats evolves constantly and fresh talents keep emerging.
