NEMA Urges Staff to Show Compassion in Disaster Response
The National Emergency Management Agency has urged its staff to put compassion, professionalism and accountability at the centre of support for people affected by disasters. Speaking at the agency’s 2026 Customer Service Week event in Kaduna, NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar said humanitarian work requires empathy, prompt action and respect for displaced families and other vulnerable people. She said NEMA will continue working with state emergency agencies, security agencies and humanitarian partners on early warnings, rescue operations, relief distribution, disaster assessments and emergency coordination. The agency also called for better communication, stronger collaboration and adequate resources for staff.
