18-Year-Old Nathan Thomas Sets Record as World’s Youngest Professor

American educator Nathan Thomas became the world’s youngest professor at 18 years and 346 days, according to Guinness World Records. He began teaching a C programming course for engineers at Miami Dade College in August 2023. Thomas enrolled in college at 10 and later earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering with honours by age 18. He says teaching students close to his age has shown him that effort matters more than age in the classroom. He is now studying law at the University of Miami while teaching online. He hopes to work in intellectual property law, combining his engineering background with legal training.

Being the youngest professor is notable, though age-based records should not overshadow how well students actually learn from the course.
