NAFDAC Warns Drug Traders Against Expired and Counterfeit Medicines
NAFDAC has urged medicine traders to improve how they store and distribute drugs, warning against expired, counterfeit and substandard products. At a stakeholder engagement for patent medicine dealers in Ogbete, Enugu, the agency said traders should buy medicines only from legitimate manufacturers, importers and authorised distributors. It also warned that changing expiry dates or selling expired drugs is criminal and can attract regulatory sanctions. NAFDAC encouraged dealers to sell only registered products, keep proper sales and stock records, and report adverse drug reactions. The agency also urged traders to adopt the Coordinated Wholesale Centre system, saying open drug markets are poorly regulated and will eventually be phased out.
