The Lagos State Government has restated that using firewood for commercial cooking remains prohibited. Businesses that ignore the directive may face sanctions, including the sealing of their premises. LASEPA General Manager Dr. Babatunde Ajayi reiterated the warning on 4 August 2026 at a workshop for bakery operators. He said enforcement begins with sensitisation and warning notices before action is taken against persistent violators. The agency says firewood smoke can harm food producers and consumers, reduce product quality, and worsen air pollution. Commercial operators are encouraged to use cleaner options such as cooking gas and electricity.
