How I Turned My Family’s Scattered Recipes Into a Printed Cookbook

For years, my mum’s recipes were scattered across handwritten index cards, WhatsApp messages and screenshots from food blogs. Whenever we planned a family event, someone had to retype everything into a Word document at the last minute. I first considered hiring a designer, but it felt too slow and expensive for a one-off family project. I also tried Canva, which was manageable for a page or two but stressful once I had more than 40 recipes in different formats. What helped was using an AI cookbook tool to upload the PDFs, Word documents and recipe photos. It preserved the recipe text, sorted the entries into categories and created a cookbook layout. I still adjusted a few pages myself, but it reduced a full weekend of formatting to an afternoon and produced a print-ready file. Has anyone else created a digital or printed collection of family recipes? I would like to hear your workflow for combining handwritten recipes with digital files.
