Court Wrongly Deregistered ADC Despite Winning Two House Seats
I would normally welcome ADC’s deregistration if it helped Peter Obi, but injustice remains unacceptable even when it works in our favour. The High Court cited a constitutional rule allowing INEC to deregister parties that score below 25% in any state’s presidential poll or fail to win certain offices. Yet official records confirm ADC secured two seats in the 2023 House of Representatives elections. Those wins included Leke Abejide in Kogi’s Yagba Federal Constituency and Ahmed Jaha in Borno’s Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok Federal Constituency. Out of 360 seats, ADC held two, alongside other smaller parties. This ruling sets a dangerous precedent. APC supporters may cheer now, but today’s power holders could be tomorrow’s outcasts. We must demand that this aberration be overturned.
