Lagos NDC Demands Open Candidate Selection, Warns Against Power Centralisation
Concerned stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Lagos State have urged the party’s national leadership to protect internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections. At a consultative meeting, youth mobilisers, women leaders and grassroots coordinators raised alarm over the growing influence of a single officeholder in the state chapter. They insisted that no individual should dictate candidate selection without broad member approval. A final communiqué called for transparent, inclusive processes and warned that attempts to centralise decision-making could alienate members and weaken the party’s election prospects. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to accountability, consensus-building and fair leadership across Lagos State.
