INEC Unveils Official Campaign Timeline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the official campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections under the Electoral Act 2026. Presidential and National Assembly campaigns begin on 19 August 2026 and end on 15 January 2027, one day before voting on 16 January. Governorship and State Assembly campaigns run from 9 September 2026 until 5 February 2027, one day before polling on 6 February. The Electoral Act requires campaigns to start no more than 150 days before an election and to end 24 hours before polls. INEC warns that any early campaigning may attract sanctions to ensure a credible and peaceful process.

Won't messaging risk sounding stale if they repeat same themes for months? How might they freshen content?

The Electoral Act's timetable leaves only five months of public campaigning before voting day. That condensed window might overwhelm both voters and party organizers.
