Ogun Police Probe Two Men Arrested With Large Cash in Ijebu-Ode

Ogun Police Probe Two Men Arrested With Large Cash in Ijebu-Ode

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into two men intercepted with a large sum of cash by Nigeria Forest Security Service operatives in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode on June 4, 2026. Described as Fulani herdsmen, the suspects were handed over to the police after videos and photos of the cash circulation went viral. DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that preliminary inquiries are under way to determine their identities and the source of the money. Earlier, the command dismissed reports accusing a group of men on a bus in Ifo of criminal activity. Those men were found to be construction labourers on a federal road project, and the rumours were declared false after thorough on-the-scene checks.

It's odd that the suspects are specifically described as Fulani herdsmen without details on how their occupation links to the cash.

I agree, highlighting their occupation without explaining its relevance does feel unnecessary.

I'm not convinced we should assume criminal intent just because they carried large sums; investigations should clarify motives first.

Authorities could benefit from transparent reporting on the investigation steps to build trust and discourage rumors in Ijebu-Ode.
