Youths Call for National Youth Development Commission and Trust Fund at Abuja Summit
At its inaugural National Youth Conference in Abuja, the National Youth Stakeholders’ Forum (NYSF) called for the establishment of a National Youth Development Commission and a National Youth Trust Fund to boost youth inclusion and national progress. The forum inaugurated its new National Executive Council for 2026–2027 and outlined key proposals. These include a justiciable National Youth Rights Act and a Police Marshal System to strengthen police–youth relations, curb crime, and foster community dialogue. Delegates also urged constitutional reforms such as translating the Constitution into major indigenous languages, enforcing a 30% youth employment quota in public and private sectors, and launching a National Agricultural Youth Scheme to provide funding, land access, and guaranteed markets for young farmers. On energy, the NYSF advocated a local refinery mandate, full allocation of domestic crude to refineries, and a larger revenue share for oil-producing communities. A Youth Charter demanding commitments on education, jobs, security, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and political inclusion will be presented to the President ahead of the 2027 elections.
