Enugu Launches Largest Farm Support Scheme with 63,000 Bags of Fertiliser

The Enugu State Government has approved the free distribution of over 63,000 bags of organic and inorganic fertiliser along with essential agricultural inputs to registered farmers in all 17 local government areas. Flagged off on July 21 at Michael Okpara Square, the programme also provides agrochemicals, improved tomato, pepper, rice and maize seeds, cassava stems and mechanisation support. It builds on the 2024 and 2025 interventions, when 12,000 and 40,000 bags of fertiliser were distributed respectively. By expanding this year’s intervention, the state aims to boost yields, strengthen food security and increase rural incomes. Shortlisted farmers will receive SMS notifications inviting them to collect their inputs and attend the flag-off ceremony.

Providing both organic and inorganic fertilizers seems comprehensive, but coordinating distribution in every LGA might be challenging without clear logistics.

I no sure say enough transparency dey to guarantee smallholder farmers will collect their share of those fertilizer supplies.

Local farming cooperatives should map out member needs first and arrange joint pickup points to avoid chaos at distribution centers.
