Sudan’s Civil War Enters Fourth Year as UN Decries Global Failure
Sudan has now been at war for four years with no end in sight. Fighting between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has killed tens of thousands and displaced over 10 million. The UN calls this an “abandoned crisis.” At least 59,000 people have died and severe acute malnutrition is rising toward 800,000. Only two-thirds of health facilities remain partly functional amid cholera and other outbreaks. Fuel shortages and rising food prices have worsened the humanitarian emergency. Clinics in Port Sudan report a doubling of severely malnourished children needing treatment each week. International talks in Berlin aim to rally aid and push for a ceasefire. But Khartoum has rejected outside interference and the war could still spread across the region.
