Magna Seven Attorneys File Suit Against EASYBUY for Harassment, Defamation and Illegal Deductions
We at Magna Seven Attorneys filed suit against Newedge Finance Limited (EASYBUY) on 10 March 2026. The action challenges reckless infringement of our client’s rights to human dignity, private and family life, and property under Chapter IV of the Constitution. Our client had a positive history with EASYBUY, buying a phone on installments. After securing a cash loan of ₦112,000 to be repaid over three months, they faced a relentless campaign of harassment. EASYBUY sent insulting texts and WhatsApp messages labelling our client a “fraudster” and “criminal.” The conduct worsened with falsified court and police documents and public disclosure of personal data, including BVN details. They also unlawfully deducted ₦169,374 from our client’s bank account without any court order. After fruitless petitions to the FCCPC and NDPC, we pursued the Fundamental Rights Enforcement procedure under Section 46(1) of the Constitution. This suit will advance data privacy rights, consumer protection and fair trade principles. The matter is now sub judice as we await the court’s decision.
