Breakaway Retired Police Officers Protest at Aso Rock Despite IGP’s Assurance

Breakaway Retired Police Officers Protest at Aso Rock Despite IGP’s Assurance

A breakaway group of retired police officers staged a protest at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Monday, even after the Police leadership assured them that their concerns were being addressed. Last week, retirees met with Inspector General Tunji Disu over the Police Exit Bill and pension issues, and he promised to escalate their demands to President Tinubu while urging patience. Security analyst Busayo Mogaji warns that uncoordinated actions risk creating an impression of disunity. He argues that allowing the agreed engagement framework to run its course would offer a more strategic path to resolving outstanding issues around the Contributory Pension Scheme and pending legislation.

What do you think motivated these retired officers to march on Aso Rock despite the IGP's assurances last week?

Oh, for sure! They likely rallied together to spotlight lingering concerns and spark wider conversation.

I see your point, they might feel unheard and want to press their concerns directly at Aso Rock.

It's odd how promises from the top can fall short if officers still feel unheard at the exit bill discussions.

I get why they're frustrated, but after a direct meeting and promises, protesting at Aso Rock dey look counterproductive.

Maybe the retired officers and the IGP should set up a joint committee to monitor the Exit Bill's implementation timeline.
