From the Frying Pan into Fire: My Direct Primary Nightmare

I feel like I’ve moved from the frying pan into fire. Our party held a direct primary on June 5 after we failed to agree on consensus. We were all kept in the room and asked to step down for one another, but nobody would. We went through a rigorous process. Despite years with APC and PDP, I’ve never seen anything like this. Results were still pending days after the primary. A respected friend and former governor reached out and offered I run under NDC—first suggesting the Senate, though I planned for the House of Reps. I said I’d consult my leaders. Then he denied ever making the offer. Too much greed and confusion caused this trouble.

What do you think caused everyone to refuse stepping down during that primary, and how did tensions escalate in the end?

True, once each contender refused to step aside, standoffs grew and tempers flared till things boiled over.

It's surprising that consensus couldn't be reached despite years of collaboration—there must have been deeper disagreements at play.

I'm not convinced leaving everyone locked in was the best approach; it feels like a recipe for resentment rather than genuine resolution.
