Roy Keane Blames Maguire’s World Cup Snub on Himself

Roy Keane Blames Maguire’s World Cup Snub on Himself — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Roy Keane says Harry Maguire has only himself to blame for missing England’s final 26-man World Cup squad. The former Manchester United skipper argued that any player left out must take personal responsibility for poor form. Maguire featured in England’s provisional 55-man list, but manager Thomas Tuchel opted instead for Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah. High-profile absentees also include Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White. Keane warned that players who can’t force their way into a major tournament squad shouldn’t point fingers. England begin their World Cup group stage against Croatia in nine days, following a 1-0 win over New Zealand.

Do you think Keane's assessment of Maguire's form is fair, or are there other factors we're overlooking in squad selection?

I agree Keane's take feels grounded, but selections often factor in tactics, squad balance and players' recent consistency.

Keane's comment suggests that form alone dictates selection, but international squads often balance tactical fit and experience alongside current performance.

Blaming Maguire solely for poor form ignores the role of coaching, team dynamics, and tactical approach in player performance.

Players missing out should analyse performance data, work on weaknesses in training, and seek feedback to improve their chances next time.
