Despite Triple Federal Allocations, Nigerians Face Deepening Hardship
States now receive nearly three times the monthly allocations from the Federation Account compared to before fuel subsidy removal and naira floatation. Yet citizens across Kano, Lagos, Taraba, Zamfara, Kogi and Akwa Ibom describe rising food, fuel and transport costs that have outpaced the increase in government revenue. From N3.35 trillion in 2022 to N8.19 trillion in 2025, FAAC allocations surged, but poverty grew. A World Bank report shows 63% of Nigerians lived in poverty last year. Civil servants and traders say higher wages and targeted palliatives have been overshadowed by inflation. Experts call for transparency and targeted spending. They argue that increased allocations must translate into social safety nets and infrastructure investments to ease the burden on ordinary Nigerians.
