Buratai Insists Security Agencies Can Track Bandits Flaunting Their Loot
Retired COAS Tukur Buratai challenged the notion that security agencies cannot locate bandits who openly share videos and communicate from their hideouts. He noted that if agencies can track ordinary citizens and influencers online, they should be able to pinpoint criminals doing the same. Speaking on TVC, Buratai stopped short of direct criticism but suggested there may be operational reasons behind agency decisions. He emphasised the need for continuous capacity building, increased recruitment and better welfare for security personnel. He highlighted specialised units like the Navy’s Special Boat Service and the Army’s Special Forces, noting their rescue and VIP protection capabilities. He also called for expanded state branches of the National Counter Terrorism Centre with advanced technology and improved coordination. Buratai warned that hostage rescue operations must consider the risk of collateral damage. He urged stronger security architecture and regular retraining to counter the growing use of social media by criminal groups.
