Super Eagles Must Prove World Cup Worth in Iran and Jordan Friendlies, Says Iroha

Super Eagles Must Prove World Cup Worth in Iran and Jordan Friendlies, Says Iroha

Former Nigeria defender Ben Iroha has challenged the Super Eagles to showcase their World Cup pedigree in upcoming friendlies against Iran and Jordan. He believes strong performances will ease the pain of missing the 2026 finals. The Eagles will face Iran this Friday at Antalya Stadium in Turkey, kick-off is at 2pm Nigeria time. Their second friendly comes next Tuesday against Jordan at the same venue. Iroha, a member of Nigeria’s first World Cup squad in 1994, says Nigerians remain passionate about every Super Eagles match. He warns that these games will only remind fans of what they’ll miss at the 2026 tournament. Nigeria has featured at six World Cups, but fell short in the 2026 play-off after a penalty defeat to DR Congo. Fans are still reeling from that loss and the subsequent rejection of Nigeria’s protest by FIFA.

Beating Iran and Jordan might boost morale, but it won't erase the sting of missing the 2026 finals.

No vex, but Iroha's demand seems harsh—friendlies are more about experimentation than proving global pedigree overnight.

The Eagles should focus on defensive organization and set-piece routines in Antalya, then test attacking variations against Jordan.
