Why Sunday Sermons Must Tackle Today’s Security Challenges

Many Nigerian churches focus on ancient battles instead of practical solutions for our communities. Motivational stories of Israelite wars do little to improve societal safety or curb rising insecurity. When sermons stir suspicion and superiority among congregations, they breed division rather than peace. Kidnappers often live among us, not as roaming bandits, but as familiar faces in our churches and neighborhoods. If we want stronger communities, Sunday gatherings should promote social awareness, collective responsibility and actionable plans to protect lives and property. It’s time our pastors prioritized societal well-being over outdated narratives.
