Nigerian Forces Neutralize Over 1,000 Terrorists in North-East Offensives
The Nigerian military’s Joint Task Force in the North-East has neutralized more than 1,000 terrorists in the past three months, including 57 commanders and leaders, Theatre Commander Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar announced during a briefing in Maiduguri. Abubakar noted that insurgent attacks have only marginally reduced and warned against misinformation surrounding ongoing operations. He also highlighted a decline in the number of fighters surrendering compared to the 16,000 who laid down arms in 2023. The commander emphasized the importance of community engagement and intelligence gathering in disrupting terror networks. He said the military will maintain its non-kinetic strategies, with increased focus on education, infrastructure development, and outreach to civilian communities. He assured Nigerians that the armed forces remain dedicated to protecting lives and property across the region.
