Lagos Workers Say High Fuel Prices Deepen Economic Hardship on Workers’ Day
On International Workers’ Day, Lagos workers spoke out against soaring fuel costs and the impact on living expenses. They urged federal and state authorities to tackle rising petrol prices, which have driven up transport fares, food costs, housing rents and other essentials before the 2027 elections. Business owners, civil servants and traders described unbearable operating costs and stagnant wages. They called for clear policy communication, sustainable economic reforms and measures like rent controls to ease pressure on ordinary Nigerians. Respondents warned that without relief, voter engagement could suffer and citizens’ welfare would continue to decline.
