House to Hold Emergency Session on June 15 to Extend 2025 Budget Capital Deadline

House to Hold Emergency Session on June 15 to Extend 2025 Budget Capital Deadline

The House of Representatives will reconvene on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. to consider an amendment bill for the 2025 Appropriation Act. Lawmakers will debate the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, 2025 (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2026, which would push the capital budget deadline from June 30 to September 30, 2026. The goal is to allow extra time for completion of key infrastructure projects. Although the chamber is on recess, all members have been instructed to give this emergency sitting priority. The move underscores the National Assembly’s commitment to effective budget implementation and project delivery.

It seems lawmakers are scrambling again just days before the session, raising concerns about their planning and commitment to timely budgets.

I'm not convinced another extension will solve any funding issues; just applying a fresh deadline won't guarantee better execution.

Perhaps they should set clear milestones and tie further extensions to measurable project progress before approving any new deadlines.
