Tinubu Launches Tax Ombudsman Office to Promote Fair Tax Administration
President Bola Tinubu has established an independent Tax Ombudsman office to ensure equity, fairness and justice in Nigeria’s tax system. Information Minister Mohammed Idris welcomed the new office after a courtesy visit by Tax Ombudsman Dr John Nwabueze in Abuja. They agreed to partner on public awareness and taxpayer education campaigns. The minister pledged support from all agency heads to use their platforms for explaining tax reforms, while the Ombudsman highlighted the need for transparent dispute resolution and protecting taxpayers’ rights. Both officials stressed that collaboration across traditional and digital media, community outreach and national orientation programmes is key to building trust and improving voluntary tax compliance.
