Ogidi Youths Kneel in Floodwaters to Plead with Gov. Soludo for Road Repair

Ogidi Youths Kneel in Floodwaters to Plead with Gov. Soludo for Road Repair — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The youths of Ogidi community in Idemili North knelt in dirty floodwater on the Enugu–Onitsha Old Road to press Governor Soludo for urgent repairs. A 200-metre stretch near Ebenezer Secondary School is submerged up to three feet after every rain. Vehicles stall as water floods engines, forcing drivers and passengers to wade through the filth or pay local helpers to push them free. Residents blame poor drainage design, rapid development and heavier rains from climate change. Floodwaters invade homes, farmlands and schools, disrupt businesses and sometimes linger for weeks. In a viral video, protesters held placards and begged the governor to pardon any past grievances and restore the road. They warned that without swift action, more lives and property will be at risk.

What do you think will prompt Governor Soludo to finally fix that submerged stretch after seeing youths kneel in floodwater?

I agree, this kind of public plea put serious pressure on Soludo to take action soon.

It's surprising that a major road near a secondary school remains flooded three feet deep every rain, yet repairs still drag on.

Kneeling in dirty floodwater seems dramatic, yet formal petitions often carry more weight with authorities than public demonstrations.

Local residents should document the flooding with photos and collectively submit a detailed complaint to the state's road maintenance office.
