Barrow Hails Nigeria’s NTAC Scheme for Transforming Gambian Higher Education

President Adama Barrow of The Gambia has praised Nigeria as a ‘Big Brother’ for its long-standing support through the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Scheme. He described the initiative as a key driver of human capital development and the advancement of higher education in his country. Addressing the second combined convocation of the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology in Banjul, Barrow celebrated the graduation of 951 students under the theme “Innovation for Impact: Science, Skills and Sustainable Development.” He thanked Nigerian professionals for strengthening critical sectors of the Gambian economy, especially in tertiary education. Representing President Tinubu, NTAC Director-General Yusuf Buba Yakub reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening development cooperation through technical assistance, knowledge transfer and capacity building. He pledged continued deployment of qualified experts to support key Gambian institutions. The ceremony also honoured several Nigerian NTAC volunteers holding leadership roles in Gambian universities. Special recognition was given to USET’s Vice-Chancellor and other senior academics for their outstanding contributions to institutional growth and academic excellence.

I wonder if Gambia could have developed its own programs instead of relying so heavily on Nigeria's support over the years.
