‘I Could Phone Tinubu for Cash Anytime’ – Babachir Lawal Fires Back at ADC Claims
Former SGF Babachir Lawal has denied taking mobilization funds from ADC aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen during the party’s primary. He said critics unfairly blamed him for Hayatu-Deen’s defeat. In a televised interview, Lawal boasted that if he needed money for politics, he could call President Bola Tinubu and receive funds before he got home. He insisted Hayatu-Deen simply had no cash to distribute. Lawal later resigned from the ADC, alleging the primary was rigged in favour of Atiku Abubakar. He argued that Atiku’s nomination would weaken the opposition’s chances against Tinubu in 2027. Atiku’s camp rejected Lawal’s accusations as the grievance of a disappointed politician. Its spokesman also condemned Lawal’s ethnically charged remarks as harmful to national unity.
