How Tinubu’s Three-Year Rule Shattered Nigeria’s Global Standing
When Tinubu told ECOWAS “Nigeria, we are back,” it raised hopes of renewed regional leadership. But after three years, our influence has crumbled—from a bluff over the Niger coup to harsh sanctions that cost us three member states. Diplomatic missteps have followed. Nigeria went more than two years without ambassadors abroad, suffered public embarrassments at major conferences, and even saw our own consulates cut off power over unpaid bills. Our passport now grants visa-free access to fewer countries than Ghana or Kenya. These failures carry real costs: worsening security cooperation with neighbours, skyrocketing terrorist attacks, and vulnerable Nigerians stranded in crisis zones. Ordinary citizens pay the price for weak foreign policy. It’s time we demand accountability on the world stage.
