Tinubu’s NYSC Overhaul: 5 Major Changes You Need to Know

The NYSC is set for its largest shake-up in over five decades. The Federal Executive Council has approved reforms to transform the scheme into a skills-driven launchpad for careers. The changes include replacing military control and khaki uniforms with civilian leadership and modern attire. Orientation camps will double from three to six weeks, covering civic education, financial literacy, and tech or creative specialisations. Primary assignments will match graduates’ fields of study, and a new data-driven system will guide safer postings. The traditional passing-out parade is scrapped in favor of a corporate graduation and career-networking event. Roll-out begins in phases from 2026, starting with updates to the NYSC Act.

Exactly, I expect more hands-on workshops and real-life skill drills instead of just theory sessions.
