Anambra Court Refuses Bail, Remands Nnewi Native Doctor to Amawbia Prison
The Anambra State High Court in Awka has ordered the remand of Nnewi-based native doctor Ikechukwu Ezenagu (aka Muomiri Afuluanya) at Amawbia Correctional Centre. His lawyer requested bail on health grounds and asked that he remain in hospital until the next hearing. The prosecution opposed the application, and Justice Jude Obiora ruled that a hospital is not a constitutional detention facility. The case has been adjourned to June 19, 2026. Ezenagu was arrested on March 26 by Agunechemba operatives for allegedly violating the state’s Homeland Security Law.
