Sagamu–Benin Expressway Upgrade Nears Completion After 250km of Reconstruction
Work on the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode–Ore–Benin Expressway has reached an advanced stage. The federal government approved the 250-kilometre upgrade to restore a key corridor linking the South-West to the South-South and South-East. Construction began in October 2024 with rigid concrete pavement for durability. One carriageway remains open to traffic while crews complete sections between Sagamu Interchange and Ijebu Ode. More than 10 kilometres of new concrete road are already in use around Ijebu Ode. Motorists praise the pace and quality, noting improved drainage and plans for solar-powered lighting. Traffic management measures have kept vehicles moving despite active work zones. Final touches like lane markings and surface treatments are now underway.
