NRC Warns of Renewed Rail Vandalism in Plateau and Bauchi
The Nigerian Railway Corporation has reported new attacks on its tracks in Plateau and Bauchi states. In one incident near Kuru, a truck loaded with stolen rail materials became stuck. In Bauchi, sleepers were removed at a level crossing, leaving dangerous gaps. The NRC described these acts as a direct threat to public safety, economic growth and national security. It warned that continued vandalism could cause catastrophic train accidents and disrupt services. The corporation urged security agencies, state governments, traditional rulers and local communities to step up surveillance and protect rail assets built with taxpayers’ money. Members of the public are also called on to report any suspicious activity around railway lines.
