Hisbah Praises Dandi LGA’s New Morality Laws to Curb Drugs and Extravagance
The Kebbi Hisbah Board has commended Dandi Local Government Area for introducing strict moral conduct regulations. In a statement to a national news agency, the Director of Shari’ah Affairs highlighted bans on drug trafficking, wild celebrations and gambling. The rules require medical fitness certificates before marriage and forbid the mixing of men and women at social events. They also bar DJs and dancing at gatherings, reckless motorcycle racing during bridal processions, and indecent hairstyles or fashions that clash with moral values. Officials welcomed measures to regulate engagement ceremonies and curb extravagance. They also praised the ban on obscene language in herbal medicine adverts and the prohibition of domestic abuse and the maltreatment of women. Leaders have been urged to implement these measures with justice and due process, while residents are called upon to cooperate. The board appealed to other local governments to adopt similar community-based reforms for peace and development.
