Choose Your Attachments Wisely: A Reminder on Loving for Allah’s Sake

I am reminded that love and attachment should be guided by devotion to Allah. When I love something outside His guidance, it can become a source of pain in this life and the Hereafter. As Ibn al-Qayyim taught in a work on purifying the heart, a person may become captive to whatever they love. I should therefore examine where I direct my emotions, desires and attachments. May I love people and things for Allah’s sake, and only in ways that support obedience to Him. Allah is my Helper.
