‘He Died on Top of Me’: Mistress of Sani Abacha Denies Killing Him

A woman who was with former military head of state General Sani Abacha when he died insists she did not kill him. She says he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during intercourse and collapsed on top of her. Dennis Amachree, a retired security operative, interviewed the woman—an Igbo pharmacist—after Abacha’s sudden death at 4:05 am on June 8, 1998, in the Aso Villa, Abuja. According to Amachree’s account, no foul play occurred. Amachree, former Assistant Director at the Lagos State SSS Command, published these details in his newly released book, “DSS @40: My journey behind the shield.” He argues this testimony should end the longstanding conspiracy theories around Abacha’s death.
