Defence HQ Dismisses Claims of Terrorist Camp in South West After School Attacks
The Defence Headquarters has addressed reports suggesting a permanent terrorist base in the South West. It was responding to the attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esinele, and L.A. Primary School in Oriire, Oyo State. The Chief of Defence Staff extended condolences to the victims’ families, the government and people of Oyo State, and all Nigerians affected by the abductions. He described attacks on children and school staff as callous and vowed to secure the safe return of every victim. The statement said these were isolated criminal acts and do not indicate any entrenched terrorist structures. Prior clearance operations in Old Oyo National Park neutralized threats, and current intelligence offers no support for a permanent base. It warned against panic-inducing narratives and urged community cooperation in gathering information for a swift recovery.
