Blord’s Self-Recognizance Bail Explained: Why He Must Surrender His Passport
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted actor Linus Williams Ifejirika (Blord) bail on self-recognizance under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. He was released based on his own credibility without a surety. “Bail on self-recognizance” means the court trusts he will attend all hearings. He did not need anyone to stand as surety or provide a bail bond. Instead, he signed an undertaking to appear in court. The court also ordered him to deposit his international passport. This prevents him from leaving Nigeria and ensures he remains available for trial. Bail does not imply innocence. It simply allows a suspect temporary freedom while the case continues, provided they don’t abscond or interfere with justice. Blord’s passport deposit shows the court is satisfied he will comply with all conditions. The trial is still ongoing, and he must return to court as required.
