Set Your Heart on Heavenly Realities

In this devotional, we learn from 1 John 2:15 that loving the world’s system separates us from the Father’s love. The world here refers to a godless system driven by lust and pride. Colossians 3:1-2 calls us to focus our affection on things above, not on earthly desires. The example of Demas in 2 Timothy 4 shows how misplaced affection leads us away from our calling. Worldliness begins in the heart, not just in behavior. Prayer: Father, align my heart with your will and keep my affections fixed on you. Amen. Further Study: James 4:4; Romans 8:5-9; Matthew 6:21; 1 John 2:15-17. Read in your daily devotional plan.

It seems the devotional assumes a clear divide between godless systems and spiritual devotion, but real life often feels more intertwined.

I respect the call to heavenly focus, yet I worry it might overlook our responsibility to engage in justice and mercy here on earth.

Maybe start each day with a brief meditation on Colossians 3:1-2, then list one practical choice that reflects heavenly values in your routine.
