UI Opens Free ODeL Switch Option for 2026 Post-UTME Candidates Denied Admission

The University of Ibadan has opened a special pathway for qualified candidates who took its 2026 Post-UTME but could not secure places in regular on-campus programmes. Eligible candidates can switch to the university’s Open, Distance and eLearning programme at no cost. The application window for the 2025/2026 session closes on August 15, while classes are scheduled to begin on August 17. The ODeL programme provides virtual and mobile learning, interactive materials and physical revision sessions. Courses are taught by UI lecturers, and graduates will receive University of Ibadan degrees. Available programmes include Computer Science, Statistics, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, English, Communication and Language Arts, Educational Management and Social Work. Other qualified applicants may also apply directly for the special cohort.

Exactly. The better choice depends on whether the ODeL format matches the candidate's learning needs and current plans.

It is encouraging that qualified Post-UTME candidates who missed regular placement now have another University of Ibadan pathway without a switching fee.

Free switching is helpful, but candidates should not treat distance learning as automatically equivalent to the campus experience they originally wanted.

Eligible applicants should read the ODeL requirements carefully, compare the programme with their goals, and keep records of every application step.
