Senate Erupts as Akpabio and Oshiomhole Clash Over Standing Rules
The Senate was in uproar for over 15 minutes after President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Adams Oshiomhole clashed over the interpretation of amended standing rules. The disruption began when Oshiomhole raised a point of order during the reading of Tuesday’s proceedings. Akpabio ruled him out of order and called on former Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu for clarification. Kalu supported the president’s position, confirming that points of order were not allowed at that stage. Despite repeated warnings, Oshiomhole persisted and Chief Whip Tahir Monguno threatened to invoke disciplinary powers if the commotion continued. Akpabio warned lawmakers not to buy forms and sit on the floor without knowing the rules.
